November 2007

Hello, and thanks for visiting KCHU.org, your online source for community radio serving Prince William Sound and the Copper River Basin.

I am overjoyed to be the new General Manager of KCHU and look forward to some exciting things happening in the near future. I’m enjoying talking with the great members of KCHU, and encourage ideas and suggestions for improvements.

We are looking for volunteers to help us with some of the improvements. If you would like to help your public station, we would appreciate your assistance!

We need to expand our Community Advisory Board to get input from other communities. The CAB helps advise us on how we can better serve the diverse communities in our listening area. The CAB meets throughout the year, and involves knowing your community and passing on comments from your friends and neighbors.

The building has seen some improvements and more needs to be done. If you have construction skills or can help with the regular upkeep an office needs, we would love some help!

We are also working towards a complete data base with all of our supporters. This is going to take a lot of data entry, but allow us to have better records of members, volunteers, and other contributors to KCHU. If you can lend a hand with data entry, please give us a call.

And we want to increase the local shows you hear on KCHU. If you would like to share your favorite music and can make a commitment to a regular show, let me know! We have many places we could add local produced programs. I think that having volunteer shows is one of the greatest things of public radio. Valdez folks have an advantage because the station is here. But I believe that with some work and ingenuity we can get shows from other communities too. So if you have some computer experience and are willing to experiment as we figure out exactly how this would work, please contact me.

Training will be provided for volunteers. So don’t worry if you’ve never done anything more than listened to the radio. If you’re willing to learn, we’re willing to teach!

If you have other skills you think we could benefit from, don’t hesitate contacting me. The more help we have, the better we can become! We can use people to help update the web, talk to donors, and many other tasks.

As always we need financial help. Everyone is dealing with the increase in energy costs, us included. It takes a lot of power to send the signal out over the air, and to run all the equipment. Other improvements also take money. The more we have, the more we can do. If everyone gives a little, we can do a LOT. If you haven’t contributed before or it’s been awhile, I encourage you to call us or send in a donation.

I’m regularly asked about Coffee Break, and I would like to bring the popular show back to KCHU’s airwaves, but it’s going to take some time and money. It is high on the priority list. Amy Bracken is producing some wonderful and insightful news stories that can be heard on the Morning Show, and will be uploaded online.

If you have any questions or concerns, please share them. We are here to give the public the best radio experience possible, and need your help.

Thank you, and again, I am very excited about the many possibilities ahead.
