On Coffee Break Wednesday, September 17th, 2014 at 9 to 10 am, host Dawson Moore with talk with representatives of the Valdez non-profit, Advocates for Victims of Violence, Inc. Janis Johnson, Chairman of the Woman of Distinction Selection Committee, and Joan Heikens. They want to let the public know about the important work done by the AVV and will be talking about the Woman of Distinction and Young Woman of Distinction awards. These awards recognize women in the community of Prince William Sound who demonstrated leadership and who have been outstanding role models to the community and who have achieved success in civic, professional, and philanthropic goals. Special guest on Coffee Break, Wednesday, September 10th, 9-10 am will be Mr. Michael B. Holcombe. Mr. Holcombe is the Prince William Sound Community College ABE Regional Director.
His focus for the show is going to be the new GED testing… process and the requirements for succeeding. He will give background as to criteria for students. Listeners are invited to call in with questions during the show by calling 835-5080 or 1-800-835-5080.
The mission of the Adult Basic Education (ABE) Program is to provide instruction in the basic skills of reading, writing, and mathematics to adult learners in order to prepare them for transitioning into the labor market or higher academic or vocational training. Special guest on Coffee Break Wednesday, September 3rd is Wendy Goldstein, Director of the Maxine and Jesse Whitney Museum at the Prince William Sound Community College. Mrs. Goldstein will be sharing information about the 5th Annual Community Science Night. The event will be held Friday, September 12th at 6:00 to 8:30 pm in the Prince William Sound Community College Atrium. This event is funded by a grant from United Way of Valdez. It provides science exploration and activities for kids of all ages and their familier and draws on participation from many educational organizationa and experts. Each year the event focuses on a specific topic. This year’s topic is geology.
